Disabled Travellers 2nd Cotswold tour (part 9) Lower Slaughter

What a charming, lovely, delightful Cotswold village, a must see for everyone. The small but picturesque river Eye runs through the village (photo 1) where if fortunate, you may find a parking spot for the car, there are no public car parks here, but the clear waters with a variety of beautiful trees as a backdrop adds so much more than charm to this delightful village (photo 2) and coupled with the typical honey coloured Cotswold stone cottages and houses that line the banks of the river Eye (photo 3) it’s the sort of village you need to gentle stroll through no matter the time of year. The lovely village has had no building work allowed since 1906 (photo 4) only maintenance work, and general tidy up along the rivers bank, but what a place they have managed to keep up, the ideal dream homes of all countryside lovers (photo 5). It is only a short ride for your wheelchair and you may take whatever route you fancy (photo 6) We would suggest you take the path that runs down on the side of the cottages and admire all of the well kept gardens that are full of colour from spring onwards (Photos 7 and 8) The river Eye widens out as you approach the old mill (photo 9) which is the only building that uses red bricks in contrast to all the others using Yellow Cotswold stone This is a restored 1800’s flour mill, which was last used in 1958, but has retained its working waterwheel (photo 10) and now used as a tourist attraction (photo 11) with old implements on view as part of its museum (photo 12) while offering local produced items in its shop (photos 13 and 14) Now we can either walk around the village homes and go round on a circular walk, Or return along the river Eye (photo 15) and cross over on its old stone bridge (photo 16) and walk back along the quiet country lane (photo 17) while admiring the flower covered old cottages (photo 18) and taking in the floral display on its lovely cottages (photo 19) before arriving back to the car park we have chosen for today (photo 20). OUR FINAL THOUGHTS This is just a delightful olde worde village which is a delight to see at any time of the year, in our eyes a must see. The old mill was fascinating because their are lots of Knick knacks, and if you love leather, there are jackets, gloves, purses, bags, and of course the local ice cream on sale, but £3 a scope, which we thought was a cheek. There are no local banks to help you take out a loan for the ice cream.
