Overview

The hotel is not wheelchair friendly and the accessible room and bathroom are very poorly designed. The bar and dining area are on a mezzanine floor which means having to use the lift to access them. There is only one lift which is small and only just fitted the powered wheelchair. There is a lot of space for parking however only 3 designated wheelchair spaces close to the entrance. During our stay two spaces were occupied by vehicles without blue badges. This hotel does not provide carers rooms free of charge. The accessible room and the interconnecting carers room were on the first floor. The accessible room has a kings size bed in it which significantly reduced the room around the bed. We could only just fit the wheelchair and mobile hoist in the room. The accessible bathroom with a roll in shower is a joke. The bathroom is very small and the shower is right next to the door. See photos. The rooms were very hot (in January) and there was no cooling air-conditioner, only a warm air system. The breakfast was self service and the counters where not wheelchair accessible so food had to be collected by the carers. When leaving we complained about the accessible bathroom and were told that the hotel was due to be refurbished soon. Not sure if that is the case. I was so frustrated with the stay that I have written to the VP, Managing Director of InterContinental hotels UK and Ireland. No response as yet.

Transport & Parking

1.5

The hotel is situated between Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield. We drove to the hotel. Not sure what other transport options there are. There are 3 disabled parking bays however during our stay these were occupied by 2 vehicles that did not display blue badges. To get from the parking bays to the entrance in a wheelchair you need to drive out of the parking area and around to the entrance as there is no lowered curb to the pavement.

Access

1.5

The entrance to the hotel is level with no steps. The foyer is large and spacious. The lounge and dining areas are on a mezzanine floor. Wheelchair users need to use the only lift in the hotel to go up half a floor. The lift is very small and in high demand.

Staff

2.5

The staff were helpful but were not really interested in discussing the poorly designed accessible bathroom or lack of space in the accessible room. We had to pay for two rooms and provide our own mobile hoist. When questioned on the accessible bathroom all they could say was that the hotel was going to be refurbished soon.
