Curve studio review
This was my first visit to the Curve Studio. I had visited the main theatre space before so knew my bearings well within Leicester and the Curve building. I was there to see the final performance of ‘My son’s a queer’.
Upon entering, there was a kind member of staff who was there to direct you to the correct door for your seats. They were patient with explaining and didn’t jump in straight away when I arrived which I found helpful as it can be overwhelming when changing environments.
The entrance from door 6 into the studio was very very dark. It felt like I walked in and had shut my eyes, there was no light until I made it to the end of the corridor and turned into the seated area. It would be helpful to either have lighting here upon patrons entering, or provide patrons with that information when scanning tickets.
The studio is tiered seating which made the view really good! You could sit in any space and have a good view of the performance. I was in row L and still felt ver close and involved in the performance.
The performance includes a large video screen at the back of the stage where Rob plays videos from their childhood. All videos were captioned which was brilliant.
The end of the performance included confetti and pyrotechnics which were loud but it was only one final blast. There wasn’t an explicit prior warning of this which I could see.
Overall I felt the staff were very kind, the space was good but certain aspects of accessibility are to be considered further.
