Overview

Medium sized restaurant in a narrow street of restaurants in the centre of the Utrecht Old Town pedestrian zone. There were tables outside most of the restaurants, but they were quite full when we visited. This was one of the few with step free access to the inside - so our reason for choosing it. The style was modern Italian (almost impossible to find trad Dutch food in Utrecht). We shared an Antepasta Mercato: a mixed starter of garlic prawns, tapenade, tomato salad, meatballs, croquettes, rocket, peanuts, hazelnuts & cashews, smoked salmon salad, carpaccio with pine nuts, Serano ham with horseradish mayonnaise and capers. It was the size of a full meal! For main I had a smoked duck and mixed lettuce salad with blackberry and walnut vinaigrette . I had initially ordered the full size, but the waiter said the starter size was large enough - he was right. My husband had a rare rib-eye steak with gremolata, chips, little gem lettuce salad with fennel. All the food was excellently presented and tasted great. We washed it down with a quarter litre each of local draught beer, and a small jenever each - all recommended by the waiter (when asked).

Transport & Parking

situated in a very narrow pedestrian street - so no cars or buses. We got there by mobility scooter (husband walking). There is almost no car parking in the Utrecht Old Town, and few if any, buses. Everyone rides bicycles (they are EVERYWHERE) - and you need to keep an eye open for them. There are not too many cobbles in the Old Town (at least not bumpy ones), so relatively comfortable to use a wheelchair or mobility scooter to get around.

Access

This place had step free access to inside, and once there, sufficient room to move my mobility scooter to a table. The tables and seats were solid, so I was able to transfer safely.

Toilets

0

No accessible toilets. Warning: there are NO accessible public toilets in Utrecht, and none of the restaurants we visited (except De Rechtbank) had them.

Our waiter was very friendly and helpful - giving a lot of very good recommendations when we asked him. He stopped for a while to talk to us about the town and Dutch food.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Excellent food, great waiter and shelter from the incessant rain and drizzle outside (the outdoor table were sheltered by canopies)
