Drumlanrig Castle

I’m doing a review as I don’t want people to be as disappointed with a visit here as we were. We love visiting gardens and did a long drive to Drumlanrig knowing the castle was closed but the gardens were open. What we weren’t aware of was this also meant you could only see the lower garden. Access to the upper garden was impossible unless you are physically 100% able to ascend steep grassy climbs or steep (no handrail) steps. The staff told us there was a locked gate which would allow access to the upper garden but because the castle wasn’t open they were unable to unlock it.

We were camping next to the grounds of this beautiful castle and gardens. We've been before and couldn't wait to go back.
