Overview

This may be Ireland’s largest zoo but it’s not the best. When we visited there was only one elephant in its enclosure and it seemed sad. Annoyingly, there were solid fences around most of the enclosures which blocked the view of the animals, with an occasional glass panel, which were then blocked by people. The rhinos were the best thing. There were 5 of them just lying on the ground although they didn’t seem to have access to any water. Accessibility wise though, it was great. There’s a great changing places toilet, if a bit annoyingly located, you need to ask for the code when you buy your ticket, to stop just anyone using it.

Transport & Parking

There is a car park, without height restriction. Not clearly signposted and is a fair stroll from the entrance to the zoo, which is also not signposted.

Great flat access all around the zoo, minimal hills. The annoying things were the solid fences around some of the animal enclosures which meant I had to keep raising my wheelchair seat up and down to be able to see over the fences. There were glass panels to look through occasionally but these were often blocked by people, particularly with the elephant.

Amazing changing places toilet, if a bit annoyingly located. It wasn’t at the entrance of the zoo, it was tucked away behind the family farm and could have done with a lock on, just in case someone came in but otherwise fantastic facilities!
