    Elizabeth Gaskell's House is a historic house and museum that celebrates the life and literature of Elizabeth Gaskell, one of the UK’s most important Victorian writers. The House is a hands-on experience that will introduce you to the world of the writer Elizabeth Gaskell and her family through historic period rooms, Victorian style garden, expert guides and changing exhibitions. Family trails and dressing-up available for younger visitors, and activities during the school holidays. The House is open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. 11-4.30pm (last entry 3pm / Tea Room closes at 4pm). (Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, outside of school holidays, are the quietest times to visit.) Admission - £7 (under 16s free of charge. Carers free of charge.) Tickets valid for 12 months.
