Overall Rating
Excellent
I'll be the first to admit that my review may be a little biased, but that's only because I work here! Codebase, Euan’s Guide's home, is a workspace that's used by tech companies, startups and anyone who needs a place to work or host meetings. Located on Castleview Terrace, one of my favourite things about this location is getting to stroll past the castle. I make a point of taking a photo every time I visit as it seems to look a little different each time. We even have a castle view from the office! With automatic doors throughout, plenty of office space, a brilliant wee coffee shop and an accessible toilet, Codebase is a welcoming place whether you are working or visiting.
Disabled Access In and Around
Good
There are two entrances to the building, one on Castle Terrace and a second at the top of Lady Lawson Street. The first entrance is the one used by most visitors. It has automatic sliding doors and you'll find the reception desk just ahead on the right as you enter, which has a lowered counter and a hearing loop. The second set of doors are manual, but Codebase staff are on hand to help. The main doors into the hallways where the offices are located are automatic, while the door to the office is manual but light enough to open easily as a wheelchair user. The second entrance also has automatic doors and a lift. This route is a little more challenging as there are fire doors and you need a pass to enter the corridor on the floor where our offices are located. Of the two, I'd suggest taking the first.
Accessible facilities: Lift to some areas, Step-free entrance, Step-free access to most areas
Parking & Transport
Good
I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
There are plenty of spaces along Castleview Terrace and Lady Lawson Street, although most of it is side on with no designated accessible parking spaces. There is a large NCP car park nearby which has accessible parking spaces, though I do not tend to park there when I take the car as it is a wee bit expensive. I tend to catch a train to Waverley or Haymarket depending on how I'm feeling. Both stations are just over half a mile away from the office. The closest bus stop is on Bread Street 160 metres from the Castleview Terrace entrance.
Accessible facilities: Public or on street parking
Accessible Toilets
Good
The accessible toilet is on the left as you enter via the first entrance. The toilet corridor has an automatic door activated by a touch pad, while the toilet door is manual and opens outwards. The transfer space is located to the left of the toilet, as is the red emergency cord - which is never tied up. The tap is a lever style tap and there is a shelf that contains sanitary products. The toilet is small but still has plenty of room to manoeuvre with a mobility aid.
Facilities: Accessible toilet
Staff
Excellent
The Codebase staff are helpful and polite, always greeting visitors with a smile. The Euan’s Guide crew are a fantastic bunch who care deeply about accessibility and are eager to make a lasting change. Our CEO Antonia, chief juggler as she would say, is especially passionate about the work we do and does all she can to help us on our mission.
