Venue Description

The Glad Cafe is a licensed cafe and venue in the southside of Glasgow. It is open daily from 9 am – 11pm, and at weekends 10 am – 11pm.

The cafe serves freshly prepared breakfasts and lunches using ingredients supplied by some of Glasgow’s top companies (Rodgers Butchers, the Fish People, Kember and Jones Bakery, Dear Green Coffee Roasters, Wild Flours Gluten Free Bakery). Because all our meals are prepared to order they can be adapted for different diets (vegan, wheat free etc). At 4pm our kitchen closes, but a soup, and a vegetarian and a meat curry prepared by our chefs is available in the evenings, served from a bain marie in the cafe. We also serve a small range of quality wines, cocktails, and a wide range of craft beers, with West, Williams, Brooklyn and Anchor Steam on tap.

Most evenings our venue is busy with live music gigs focused mainly on indie, electronic and experimental music, but also showing films in partnership with Southside Film Festival, talks, and some spoken word events.

The Glad Cafe is a family run social enterprise business, also running a Glad Rags Thrift Shop and a Glad Foundation charity, which aims to provide affordable music lessons for local young people.

Accessibility

Both cafe and venue are wheelchair accessible, with an accessible toilet in the cafe. Entrance: no steps, door wide enough for a wheelchair, but it is push open, but will remain open once pushed wide. Level access, but a ramp takes you down to the lower cafe area and into the venue. The bar in the venue has a lowered area suitable for wheelchair users.

Accessible Performances

We are hoping to introduce signing at some gigs in the future.
