Gourock Ferry Terminal offers regular daily foot passenger crossings to Dunoon and Kilcreggan and is one of two ferry terminals in Gourock, the other being McInroy's Point. The terminal sits right next to Gourock Railway Station, making it part of a small transport hub that brings together rail and boat travel. Whether you are just arriving in Gourock or quite literally shipping out of it, the terminal is fit for purpose.

Disabled Access In and Around

I parked in one of the three accessible parking spaces at the terminal and made the rest of the way in my wheelchair. The grounds are in decent condition, although parts of the route have an incline and a few short ramps. There is no shortage of zebra crossings in this area. The doors to the ticket office are automatic but they are located up a short ramp. Inside the office you'll find vending machines, plenty of seats and a screen displaying departure information. The routes to the ferry are only open when the ferry is in. The ramps down looked quite steep but staff will be on hand to help when you are ready to disembark. If you're arriving via the trainstation, the route is mostly level, although it does lead along a national cycle route, so look out for bikes!

There are three accessible parking spaces at the terminal and plenty of standard spaces on the road leading up to it. Additional parking, accessible parking spaces and with EV charging can be found at the nearby railway station, although this may be subject to charges. Please not the EV charging bays are the width of standard parking spaces, and not the most user friend for those with mobility aids. There is also a taxi rank and a bus stop at the station.

There are public toilets in the waiting room at the terminal. The toilet does not require a RADAR key and the door opens inwards. You secure the door from inside by raising the large handle. The toilet facilities were clean when I visited, which is always appreciated. Inside, it is quite spacious with enough room for most mobility devices to manoeuvre and for carers or PAs to attend the loo with you. The toilet bowl has a contrasting toilet seat with contrasting rails on either side. There is space for a left side transfer only, but the baby change table on the wall had not been folded away which makes transferring difficult. The red emergency cord had been tied around the grab rail at the transfer space, which meant that if someone folded it down they would trigger the alarm and have a distressing time. I fixed it, but it is frustrating all the same. The small sink has a lever style tap, a mirror and contrasting rails on either side.
