Excellent
Most of the building is accessible and since it ceased to be a place or worship it has been converted into a tourist attraction, complete with a café and an accessible toilet. There is no charge for admission and the displays about the history of the building are worth seeing.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
The church is surrounded by cobbled streets where cyclists, market traders and tourists throng. The entrance is wide, with only a slight door sill that will not be a problem for anyone who is self-propelling. The floor consists of stone flags and gravestones but is reasonably even. A ramp gives access to the choir area. There are a couple of side rooms which are not wheelchair accessible. Circulating spaces are good.
Parking & Transport
0We can’t comment, as we walked/wheeled from our hotel. The church is about 12 minutes wheel from the train station.
Accessible Toilets
0A modern toilet block, including a wheelchair-accessible loo, has been constructed and there is level access to it in the café area of the church. We didn’t use it, so we can’t rate it.
Staff
Excellent
You may not encounter any on an average day. We were there on. Friday for the free organ concert and the stewards were very helpful.
Additional Information
Even if you aren’t really into that kind of music, the free organ concerts on Fridays during the Cheese Market season are worth catching. The programme is short - about 30 minutes - and you get to hear both of the church’s instruments - the tiny choir organ and the mighty Schnitger great organ. The displays about the history of the church are interesting, ca ptioned in English as well as Dutch and at a sensible level for wheelchair users.
