Overall Rating
Good
The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre was not just accessible but for a change the wheelchair spaces were located just 6 rows back in the stalls with plenty of space and a good view. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the disabled entry and toilet located just a few metres away. Disabled patrons receive £5 off per ticket and a carer goes for free.
Disabled Access In and Around
Good
Access to the auditorium is via separate entrance to the left of the main entrance. There is a gentle ramp into row F of the stalls. The staff were very helpful as we initially went into through the main entrance to the bar for a drink and then a member of the box office staff came outside with us to direct us to the wheelchair entrance. Lots of people use this exit to leave the theatre so I had to get my companion to stop the flow of people to allow me to reverse and leave the building.
Parking & Transport
Poor
I have been to this theatre on many occasions but never managed to park in the 2 disabled spaces. These spaces are also located parallel to the kerb and not very accessible for a WAV. There are a further 3 blue badge spaces located in a public car park 100 metres away. The car park is large and considering the number of blue badge holders I am surprised there are only 3 designated blue badge spaces.
Accessible Toilets
Good
Accessible disabled loo with a sliding door. Great location just a few metres from the disabled entry/exit. See photo !
Staff
Good
The box office staff were very helpful when I booked to check there was enough space for my power chair and kindly directed us to the accessible entrance to the theatre.
Additional Information
Although there are only 2 wheelchair spaces for a reasonable sized theatre they were in a great location and the discount available is very generous.
