Venue Description

HMS Belfast tells the stories of those who lived on board the former Royal Navy warship, which was once home to a crew of up to 950 men. Explore nine decks of seafaring history and hear sailors’ experiences of battle from the Second World War and beyond – including the convoys in icy Arctic conditions and the 404 days spent patrolling the waters during the Korean War. Immerse yourself in the midst of battle in The Gun Turret Experience. Travel down to the bowels of the ship to see the machines that powered her across the world. Take control of a fleet off North Borneo in the interactive Operations Room and find out about the experiences of those abroad the ship in the Life at Sea exhibition.

Accessibility

The nature of the ship makes access to some of the areas below decks impossible for wheelchair users due to the many ladders that lead to the lower decks. However, we have a wheelchair lift from the gangway to the Quarterdeck where your tour begins, and the main Deck, Quarterdeck, Boat Deck and cafes and shop are all accessible. The main Deck consists of: the Laundry, Ship's Chapel, Bakery, Galley, associated prep areas, Petty Officers' Mess, Sick Bay, Dental Surgery and Arctic Mess Decks are fully accessible. Wheelchairs are available to loan.
