Overview

This review is a mixed bag… but has one major downside and that is not the most disabled friendly of establishments. My husband and I were booked into this venue due to a crisis at home. As a disabled person with MS & COPD distant to walk is sometimes an issue. I do have a wheelchair but can get by with using sticks. Thankfully I wasn’t mid flare up when we stayed. On arrival we were informed that we were on the 2nd floor (the venue only has two floors) & that we were right at the end of the west wing. This in itself was a bit of a concern, however we agreed. As they cards were presented we were informed that there was NO LIFT and that there was a flight of stairs to access the second floor! This was a concern that was picked up on by the receptionist, but couldn’t change to a ground level room as they were fully booked. We were on the Second Floor for a week, before we could be moved. This sadly meant for two days I was unable to get out of the room as I was in pain. Thank goodness the room was lovely! There were four dedicated disabled parking spaces, however I did not that due to a couple of functions the hotel was hosting, the spaces were used by persons who shouldn’t have been using them. There was a bar area that had stairs and a ramp leading to it, along with a disabled toilet. Sadly I didn’t use the toilet, but my husband mentioned that the ‘gents’ toilets were spotless so would like to presume that the disabled ones were too. Great staff, fairly good experience but not for those who have to use a chair nor those who are unable to walk a great distance.

Transport & Parking

Huge car park that got full very quickly as it is a popular hotel. 4 designated spaces at the front of the hotel, but noted that some selfish contractors were using the spaces without displaying a badge! Xxx

Access

No lift. No power doors. Not very easy to move around the hotel. Which is a shame and really lets the venue down!

I can only say that there was a disabled loo that was accessible and had a standard locking system! You didn’t have to ask for a key, nor did it have the functionality of a RADAR key. There wasn’t a point where I needed to use it, but my husband did say the gents loo’s were spotless so I do not doubt the disabled loo was any different.

Staff

Magda & Helen on reception are just the best! Caring, attentive and helpful. As we had a room change from the second floor to the first, and my husband had to go to work early on change over day, Magda started her shift one hour early (unpaid) to help me move our belongings from the room! Staff were blooming fantastic!!
