Overview

Albert 1'er Hotel is three star hotel opposite Jardin Albert 1er (gardens). It's an old building with a contemporary interior. It has about 70 rooms including 3 accessible rooms with walk roll in showers. There is a 24 hour receiption desk and a breakfast room on the 1st floor.

I recevied excellent special assistance at Nice Airport, with the lady wheeled me out to my bust stop and then checked with the bus driver that the bus was going to where I needed to go. I took the 98 bus from the airport bus stop into Nice. The bus is accessible. The fare is 6 euros (2018) and you can pay the bus driver. I took the bus to Albert 1er stop. Its the first stop once the bus turns off the sea front, and the stop before is Congrès / Promenade. the journey took about 20 minutes. When I got off at Albert 1 er bus stop look in the direction the bus is travelling and on the same side of the road you are on, you will see in front of you an overhanging, blue hotel sign. at the first floor level and this is Albert 1er Hotel, see photo. There is a side street to cross but it took about 1 minute to walk to the hotel. On the way back to the airport you get the bus from the opposite side of the gardens, on Prom de Anglais, directly outside Casino Ruhl, next to McDonalds which is on the corner, which has Le Meridian hotel on the upper floors.

Access

The entrance to the hotel has a small permanent ramp. The 1st set of doors were open during the day and the 2nd set of doors were automatic. There is seating here. There is then a platform lift to take you up 4 steps, which have a hand rail on the side where the lift is, see photo. Then there is a receiption, which is at standing height. Then there are lift or stairs to all floors. The lift is rectangular, inside it holds about 3 people and their luggage. It would accomodate a wheelchair but you would need to check the measurements of the lift given it size. I was in a superior, garden view room on the 6th floor. Exiting from the lift I had step free access to my room. On entering my room I had a short corridor and the room itself was quite spacious. It had an ensuit shower room, with a single step into the shower. There were no grab rails but it had a wall on one side which I could lean on. the toilet had no grab rails but was next to a vanity sink unit which I could lean on to help me get up. from the bedroom was a double door with s single step over into the balcony. There were free standing table and 2 chairs. The view from the balcony was impressive and I could see the sea, Jardin Albert 1 er, where the Christmas market was being held and the hills in the background. It was lovely. I walk with a cruch and the room worked perfectly for me. I spoke to the hotel staff and informed me that they have 3 accessible rooms (110, 210 and 310) and they showed me one of them, see my photos, they overlook the gardens, have a walk in shower and a toilet with grab rails and there was extra space round the bed. The hotel has a breakfast room, which is on the 1st floor. This has step free access and breakfast is buffet style. There is an additional cost for breakfast. Also on the first floor is a luggage storage room,

There are accessible toilets in the 3 accessible rooms. On the first floor there is a regular toilet and a seperate shower room, which required a key, but which might have had an accessible toilet inside. I did not have a accessible toielt in my room but I found it easy to use as I was able to support myself on the vanity sink unit next to the toilet.

Staff

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Everyone spoke English. Check in and check out were quick. As mentioned when I asked about accessible rooms, when I was checking out, the member of staff showed me one of them.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The only thing I sould point out is the hotel doen't have lots of facilities just 24 hour receiption, breakfast room which has a couple of vending machines, so if you're looking for a hotel with lots of facilities this probably isn't the hotel for you. There is a fridge in the room and when I arrived it had 2 complementary bottles of water but otherwise empty so was useful for storing drinks I purchased. However, this is a lovely hotel. It's well maintained and rooms are clean and tidy. Service is excellent. If you're looking for a mid price, good value hotel close to everything this hotel is perfect. The hotel is so central. 2 minutes and youre at the sea front, 5 minutes and your in Vieux Nice, the old town and the Opera House. Directly opposite the hotel is Jardin Alber 1 er and next to that is Place Massena, the main square and on the other side of the square is the start of the shops. There's lots of places to eat within a couple of minutes from the hotel. Also worth knowing is that the Nice Carnival route passes the hotel, so if you got yourself a garden view room you should be able to watch the carnival from the comfort of your balcony. I loved my stay and I look forward to staying there again in the future. Highly recommend.
