Venue Description

Audio and guided tours inside the Houses of Parliament offer visitors a unique combination of one thousand years of history, modern day politics and stunning art and architecture. Tours include the Commons and Lords Chamber and 900 year old Westminster Hall. Visitors are also welcome to watch debates and committees when the Houses are sitting.

Accessibility

Although mostly dating from the mid-19th Century, the Houses of Parliament are very accessible. One part of the tour route, St Stephen's Hall, has steps either end but there is an alternative route via a lift and St Stephen's Hall can be viewed from Central Lobby. To help plan a visit please watch the video ‘How to access the Houses of Parliament’ which includes a welcome from Tanni, Baroness Grey-Thompson and five other chapters. The video can be viewed all the way through (15 minutes) or or by individual chapter, and with the option of subtitles or signed in British Sign Language. Toilets

Just off Westminster Hall there are public accessible toilet facilities. An accessible 'Changing Places' public toilet, including a changing bench and a hoist, can be found in Lower Waiting Hall just off Central Lobby. If visiting Portcullis House, there are two public accessible toilets on the first floor.

Staff

Visitor Assistants are on hand both outside and within the Parliamentary Estate to help answer any questions about access. Whether visiting for a tour or to watch debates, staff are happy to advise and assist visitors to their destination upon request. On arrival at the Houses of Parliament visitors have to pass through airport style security searches. All staff have undertaken disability awareness training.
