The John Gray Centre is the heritage hub for East Lothian, and hosts a wide range of events and activities. It holds Haddington’s library, the Star Room for activities (also available to hire) and the archives and local history centre for East Lothian, along with a museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions. The Centre also has public access computers and free wifi. There are toilets with disabled access, wheelchair-friendly lifts and free audio guides (with optional extras for visually impaired visitors) to borrow. Visit www.johngraycentre.org to find a full events calendar, ranging from talks on art and history through activities for children and families to the film club and a variety of workshops, both creative and educational. Entry is free, as are many of the events and activities. The website also hosts the heritage catalogues, so you can explore East Lothian’s past via text or map to discover the archaeology, archives and artefacts cared for by East Lothian Council.

Access all over

This center is a library, museum and archive it has disabled access all over. It has a ramp leading to the front entrance and a flash floor al, the way around the ground floor. It has a lift allowing access to the museum and archive would advise taking a visit

Disabled Access at John Gray Centre

There is an access ramp to the entrance for wheelchair users. There is a lift to the first floor (Museum and Archive/Local History Centre). Inside the museum gallery there is a short flight of stairs with a wheelchair platform lift. Hearing loop plus portable hearing loops. Free audio guides with visual description and navigation guidelines for blind and visually impaired visitors.

There are three Blue Badge parking spaces for disabled in the cobbled area beside the John Gray Centre (on Lodge Street), and more Blue Badge spaces nearby in the on-street parking on Market Street, just in front of the John Gray Centre.

On both floors there are public toilets, including toilets for wheelchair users.

Changing Places toilet

There is a Changing Places toilet, which includes an adult-size changing bench, toilet, sink and hoist.

A designated accessible toilet designed for wheelchair users and others with visible and non-visible accessibility requirements is available within the main public areas.
