A family home and a great estate. Glorious landscape garden surrounded by parkland with fine 18th-century house. Would you give away your family home for your political beliefs? Sir Richard Acland did just that with his Killerton Estate in the heart of Devon, when he passed it on to the Trust in 1944. Today, you'll find a friendly Georgian house set in 2,600 hectares (6,400 acres) of working farmland, woods, parkland, cottages and orchards. There's plenty of calm space in the glorious garden, beautiful year-round with rhododendrons, magnolias, champion trees and formal lawns. You can explore winding paths, climb an extinct volcano, discover an Iron Age hill fort and take in distant views towards Dartmoor.

Gorgeous Grounds to be Adventurous

Killerton proved to be a wonderful place to tour on my mobility scooter. It was a dry day and I was able to navigate the grounds over paths of different surfaces and some grass. Staff and volunteers were very helpful, including the gardener opening a gate. The house isn't accessible but as a keen horticulturalist I enjoyed the fresh air and gardens.

Killerton House National Trust

Tramper available to do a 3 to 4 mile trail through fields and forest around the estate, as well as the formal gardens. Very enjoyable trail with great views over the countryside. Some gates so take someone to accompany you to open and close them.

Disabled Access Information Provided by Killerton

Disabled Access at Killerton

There is Tramper (all-terrain mobility scooter) at the site. The Tramper helps people with a temporary or permanent mobility issue. It can be borrowed by people who can walk small distances for example, but could not manage the longer trails without becoming tired. Users do not have to be registered disabled to use it or have a Blue Badge.

There is an accessible toilet in the car park loo block and a recently refurbished accessible toilet at the site of the main house. There is also one in the Dairy cafe.

Accessible services at Killerton

A buggy service is available from outside Visitor Reception, and shuttles between Reception and the House. The buggy service is available during house opening times. The buggy may be able to take you to the Chapel and the gardens, please enquire at Visitor Reception. Wheelchair users will need to transfer into the buggy. (Please note: If the house is closed, there is no buggy service available.)

Other features at Killerton

There are two Trampers available to borrow from Visitor Reception as part of the Countryside Mobility Scheme. Booking is strongly advised - to book please phone 01392 881345. There are 3 scenic tramper routes to follow, taking in the chapel grounds and gardens, the Front Park, and the Back Park and woodland areas. Training is provided.
