I'll be honest, I didn't expect much of this campsite. It was simply a place to park our campervan during our tour of the islands, but I left thoroughly impressed. Whilst it may not be the most accessible of sites, the staff are outstanding and even made an immediate change after we had a chat about accessibility.

    Disabled Access In and Around

I was initially dismayed at the amount of gravel, as this can be challenging to navigate in a manual wheelchair, although I recognised its purpose after our water tank started leaking. It's not so deep that assistance wouldn't get you over it, but it would have been nice to have a paved route. On the plus side, there is a ramp to the reception area. The door is wide enough for a manual wheelchair, and I expect a powerchair too. The reception desk is low and there is also a charging station for phones. There is also a step-free route to the accessible toilet and shower.

I travelled to this place by walk or wheel

The is a camping and campervan site. As such, it has plenty of parking, with electric hook-ups and water for those touring the island.

    Accessible facilities: Dedicated on-site parking

The accessible toilet/shower room is accessed using a key, which is available at reception, although the toilet wasn't locked when I went to check it out. The room has a shower, as well as a toilet pan, sink etc. The toilet pan has space for a right-side transfer, and a single grab rail to the right when seated. The sink has a decent-sized basin with room for knee clearance underneath. A single grab rail is installed to the left of the mirror. There are two lever taps for hot and cold water. The shower area is to the left of the toilet pan (right if seated) and features two grab rails. The shower head was positioned low, which I appreciate. This shows that staff are considerate. The one thing that I felt I had to highlight was the absence of a red emergency cord, but the attentive staff listened to my feedback and are now investigating how to have this implemented. The floor is tiled. Although the grab rails are white, they contrast well against the rest of the room.

On checking in, we were greeted by two exceptionally pleasant staff members. On hearing that I had a disability, they were quick to suggest a parking space that was closer to the toilets and showers. After a chat about access, they ordered a more appropriate shower chair, which was delivered the very next morning. They even asked me to try it before I left. If my legacy on the island is a shower chair, I'm more than happy with that. Think of me next time you use it... actually, please don't!
