Attractive accessible walled garden

Overview

The walled garden is part of a much larger area called the Lodge Grounds. It is well worth a visit on its own. I'm sure the rest of it is worth seeing too if you have a powered chair but the paths up to it are too steep for a manual chair.

Transport & Parking

There is a car park just beside the garden. On one photo you can see the cars just beyond the stone arch. There are about three blue badge spaces but they do not have cross hatching beside them. The rest of the car park is a mixture of tarmac on the parts you drive and gravel for the car spaces. The car spaces are separated by logs - not the easiest if you are transferring to a chair. Like all North Berwick car parks, it gets busy.

Access

The paths are smooth tarmac and level. There are about four seats in the first section, but only one in the second. That's why it's lost a half star. The first section has lovely rose beds and an aviary. Sadly the roses had just been pruned when we went and had few flowers so my picture does not show them at their best but I've seen them in the past. There is a tarmac path from the far side of the garden which takes you out to the top of Quality Street where there are many places to eat and takeaways. The path has a short steep part but I managed to get the chair I was wheeling down safely. The gate through to the street looks as if it's locked but it isn't!

Toilets

There are no toilets but there is an accessible public toilet with a RADAR key in Quality Street, a short walk/wheel away.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Just opposite the walled garden, at the top of Quality Street, is a small terrace called the War Memorial Garden. It has lovely flower displays and quite a lot of seats. A great place to eat your takeaway.
