Overview

Loseley Park is a privately open house/home with delightful accessible walled gardens and tea room. The paths are gravel and cafe area is uneven but with someone to help you this beautiful venue is accessible. I used a manual chair with chunky tyres and a freewheel which gave me reasonable access. The ground floor of the 16th century house is also accessible.

Transport & Parking

3.5

We travelled by car. The website advised there was disabled parking but not the location of the spaces. There was no signage on site to indicate where to park. There are two disabled parking spaces in the main car park and I subsequently found 3 additional spaces much nearer to the house and garden entrances.

Access

The house has steps but ramps will be put out on request (see photo) and the staff were very helpful. Only the ground floor can be accessed and no power wheelchairs are allowed which is totally understandable. There are also temporary ramps available to access the cafe (I did not use these during my visit).

Toilets

3.5

The accessible loo is adjacent to the cafe but you do need to wheel over some very uneven stone tiles to reach the toilet door. The door was not easy to open or close (dragged on the floor) and therefore I required help. The toilet itself was large and clean (see photo).

Staff

Everyone was helpful. The ticket office staff checked in advance to ensure the house ramps would be put out for me for my timed tour. Restaurant staff were friendly.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Loseley park and house is a family opened estate which is still lived in by 3 generations of the family. It is open to the public for 5 months of the year for 5 days a week (see website) and it is a real treasure hidden away on the outskirts of Guildford. The gardens are a delight, the house has lots of history and the cafe is reasonably priced with indoor and outdoor seating.
