I popped into this McDonalds to grab a quick breakfast before a long day of study at Stroke Association House just across the street. The service was pretty much as expected, the staff were nice enough and the food was up to its usual standard. The loo was very unpleasant, not to mention difficult to access.

There are automatic doors at the entrance. Orders are encouraged to be made on the touch screens, rather than at the counter. These have have the option of table service and a button to lower the options to make them easier for wheelchair users to order. There is a combination of static chairs and high stools and the venue is spacious enough for most mobility aids to move around.

Accessible facilities: Single-level venue, Step-free entrance, Seating at regular intervals

I travelled to this place by walk or wheel

Whilst I wheeled to the store, I noticed a single accessible parking space, with hatched markings on either side, and around fifteen standard spaces. The nearest bus stop is 160 metres away on City Road.

    Accessible facilities: Dedicated on-site parking

    Poor

The accessible toilet leaves a lot to be desired. Accessed through a manual door, the corridor to the loo is quite compact. This wasn’t helped by the trolley of cleaning equipment that blocked the toilet door. A member of staff saw me struggling to move it and helped in the end. The door to the loo opens outwards and is secured by a twist lock. There is space for a left-side transfer but there is a large bin in the space, the lid for which was on the floor and was the source of the very unpleasant smell in the loo. The red cord is installed on this side also and wasn’t tied up. The toilet pan has white rails on either side which contrast with the wall and a soft backrest. The sink is small with rails on either side and a sensor operated tap. I had to reverse out of the loo, fighting with the door the whole time. Not a great experience.
