Venue Description

MK Gallery is the city's purpose-built public gallery, presenting free, temporary exhibitions of international contemporary visual art, together with regular community exhibitions, and an extensive public events and formal and informal learning programme. Open Tuesday–Friday 12–8pm, Saturday 11am–8pm, Sunday 11am–5pm. www.mkgallery.org

Accessibility

Fully accessible to limited mobility visitors and wheelchair users. There is level access via automatic sliding doors at the main entrance, leading to a wide foyer giving access to the three main galleries, the Information Desk and small Shop.The first floor Video Space can be accessed by the lift. Door openings are over 2 metres wide, but sometimes modified when blackout conditions are needed for film /new media displays. At these times gallery staff can offer access assistance as required. We can provide a Portable Induction Loop System and Access Audio System + arrange BSL on request.

Accessible Performances

An access tour with audio description for visually impaired visitors is programmed during each exhibition. Details are advertised on the gallery website and via gallery e-newsletters. Call 01908 676900 for more information.

Toilets

On the ground floor, to the left of the main entrance, there are male and female toilets and an adapted toilet including a standard baby change facility. It has full level access and is suitable for self powered or motorised wheel chairs. Grab rails are provided. On the first floor, there is one adapted and one unisex toilet outside the Video Space, accessible by lift.

Staff

Gallery front of house staff are not trained in sign language but with advance notice a sign language interpreter can be provided for selected public events by calling 01908 558305 during office hours. Large print copies of room guides are available at the Information Desk, as are folding stools if public seating is not present due to the nature of the temporary displays.
