Visitors to the Moorish Castle can walk around the fortress amid huge boulders and sheer cliffs, admiring the views over a unique landscape stretching all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Located on one of the hilltops of the Serra de Sintra, this irregular-shaped fortress was built in around the 10th century after the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula. It was subsequently enlarged during the Christian reconquest.
