Overview

Although the market had two cafe's, the first cafe was too small for our group to fit into with out wheelchair users. And the second cafe was based in a conservatory area, and it was too cold on the day to stay. It would be nice in summer when the weather is warmer. When navigating the market space, we were able to navigate the market generally well, other than some spaces in between stalls. The entrance to the Festival Market was very accessible and there were several entrances. The car park, situated directly outside the market had good crossing points with zebra crossings and drop down kerbs, the easy access routes also led to nearby shopping outlets. The toilets within the market space had two disabled toilets, one that needed a radar key to open, and one where you needed to go to the market office to get a key for. We were happy with the accessibility of the toilets, as one had a working hoist and a changing bed. The toilet had operating instructions for the hoist and an alarm system.

Transport & Parking

5

The parking was situated directly outside the market and also across the road in another retail park area. The car park had multiple disabled bays and there were zebra crossings and safe places to cross as so to access the market.

Access

4.5

The market was easy to access and had multiple entry ways. All areas of the market were accessible to our wheelchair users, however some of the routes between stalls were narrow. Overall there were very wide spaces in between the stalls.

Toilets

5

The are two different disabled toilets within the festival market, one could be opened with a radar key and the other opened with a key that you needed to get from the market office within office hours. The toilets were clean and spacious and included a working hoist and a changing bed. The toilets had alarm system and guides for people to use the hoists.

Staff

The staff in the market office were friendly and helpful and asked if we needed any extra support in accessing the disabled toilets.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

We all agreed that the cafe that would be accessible to our group would be much nicer when the weather improved as it was cold on the day, being situated in a conservatory area.
