Although this is not a review of a place, it is of a Community Service in Morningside. Having been elected as a Community Councillor I saw this as an opportunity to support and assist all the citizens in our Community disabled and able bodied. I took on the new role of Engagement Officer and have met with all business owners, the local Traders Association, Primary and Secondary Schools, entertainment venues, charity and Voluntary outlets, Pubs, post offices, dentists, doctors, super markets, churches, play groups, Community hubs, library and even the local funeral director - whole offered me 20% discount on my funeral !. The Community and Council I represent is profoundly inclusive, so it has been of great satisfaction to promote the Guide further through information and awareness, and liaise with all providers on areas of improved accessibility and mobility. This also provides additional access and contact with our elected representatives and other Community groups.
Additional Information
In conjunction with our Community and Service providers the covid protocols have been clearly and widely advertised, promoted and maintained throughout Morningside, which not only resonates a profound Community spirit but has reinforced the strong links in helping those who need it. Disabled people are particularly under representative on Community Councils, if you see the same potentials as I have then attend meetings, get involved and let the citizens in your Community recognise that disability, accessibility and mobility does not and should not mean being marginalised.
