Mount Stuart

As always, I researched this visit before deciding on it and looking at their website, we were in two minds. The reasons were about accessibility and motorhomes. The website said that they encourage you to use their wheelchairs inside the house for conservation reasons and that there is no dedicated motorhome parking. Together, these almost put us off going. I am so glad we chanced it, as it was one of the best days out we had all holiday!

This is a magnificent late Victorian Gothic revival style house. The fact that some of the rooms weren't fully completed until post WW1 makes it more intriguing. You also get a variety of interior styles as well as some items have been relocated from their Luton Park House in Bedfordshire including work by Robert Adam. The gardens are also worth seeing including the glasshouse which was originally built for the Glasgow Garden Festival in 1988.

If you want to enjoy an amazing mix of fantasy Victorian Gothic architecture mixed up with astronomy and humour, all completely wheelchair accessible, this is the place to go.
