Overview

The museum is located on the Prom des Angels next to the Negresco Hotel. The collection is housed in a late 1800s luxury villa, built in the Belle Epoque style, so it's worth going in just to see its beautiful interior. The museum is about the city of Nice and focuses on history and art. It also houses temporary exhibitions and while I was there was a special Lego exhibition. There is an entrance fee of 10 euros, but I was told that was a day pass to all the City of Nice's 12 museums. Or for 20 euros you can buy a 7 days pass (prices December 2018). The gardens are free to visit and with plenty of benches.

Transport & Parking

The museum faces the Promenade des Anglais and there is a step entrance to the gardens from there. There are a number of buses that drive along the sea front and top nearby.

Access

4

The entrance to the musuem is at the rear of the building, facing Rue de France. There is a ticket office which has step free access but 2 sets of double doors to enter. Then there is a slope with flat cobblestones to the entrance door. At the entrance there 2 steps. I asked if there was a temporary ramp that was available, but my French is very limited and the lady I asked said no. However once inside it is step free as there is a lift to all floors. There is some seating on each of the floors.

Toilets

5

In the basement, which is accessible by lift, there are 2 accessible toilets, labelled handicapes. The accesible toilet was clean and spacious with a single grab rail and no emergency alarm.

Staff

Staff were very helpful. The room stewards on each floor would call the lift for me.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The museum is very beautiful and interesting. It is spread out over 3 floors. the first floor has retained the grand receiption rooms of the house. the second floor is more like a traditional museum with cabinet displays. The top floor had an exhibtion which contained mainly text and pictures. I should point out that apart from the Lego exhibtion all the other labels were in French only. This didn't detract from my enjoyment but it maybe worth bearing in mind. I've passed by the museum many times before when I've been in Nice and was so glad to have finally gone in. Well worth visiting.
