Date of visit: October 2025
I am a disabled person and a carer or friend of a disabled person and a general supporter of disabled access. I have experience of challenges around: a hidden impairment, accessing toilets, dexterity or coordination and moving around.
Overall Rating
Excellent
A great day out for absolutely anyone and everyone! From the entrance to the displays and the staff - everything was brilliant.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
Although there are steps to enter the museum, there is also a ramp for anyone needing it. It is fairly steep, but manageable both up and down. There are plenty of staff as you enter the building who will inform you of every lift available, offering maps for the museum which also highlight the lifts, accessible bathrooms and other features of the museum. There are staff are dotted about throughout the building, so any queries can be answered fairly immediately. Lots of seating around the building, plenty of space for wheelchairs/powerchairs etc to manoeuvre around and although the lifts are varied in size and capacity, there was enough room for myself in a wheelchair along with two adults to occupy the lifts.
Accessible facilities: Lift to all areas, Seating at regular intervals
Parking & Transport
Excellent
I travelled to this place by train
Although I did not use the parking facilities, there are disabled spaces and a drop-off zone outside the main entrance to the museum.
Accessible facilities: Drop-off or pick up point, Dedicated on-site parking
Accessible Toilets
Excellent
The accessible toilet was clean and a really good size with grab rails, plenty of transfer space and emergency cord.
Facilities: Accessible toilet, Changing Places toilet
Staff
Excellent
The staff were fantastic with plenty of friendliness from security to info desk staff, I couldn't fault a single person. Each curator spoken to was highly knowledgeable on the topics they were posted near and incredibly helpful when it came to navigating the museum.
