    National Trust for Scotland's Newhailes

    About

Discover 300 years of Scottish history through this magnificent and carefully conserved neo-Palladian villa. Newhailes is famed for having some of the finest rococo interiors in Scotland. Newhailes has been allowed to grow old gracefully through a pioneering conservation policy which does ‘as much as is necessary, but as little as possible’ to keep the house in good order without disturbing its ‘untouched’ atmosphere. Start at the stable block courtyard to watch a short video about the house’s highlights. Then take a guided tour of the house. Some of the key rooms include the magnificent, purpose-built library and the Chinese sitting room, with its early 18th-century trompe l’oeil decoration. Afterwards leave some time to explore the grounds. Take one of the wheelchair-friendly paths through acres of shady woodlands and grasslands. Finally, stop for a bite in our café and browse the shop, offering a good range of gifts.
