Disabled Travellers Easter Parade around The Cotswolds (part 7)

We end our trip around the eastern region of the Cotswolds at NEWBOLD ON STOUR a small village just six miles away from Stratford upon Avon. It is in the parish of St David’s. It has a village store and a public house The White Hart pub, and a village green, with its war memorial. The village may have started as a small village of cottages on the road between Stratford apon Avon and Shipston on Stour, with many of its buildings Georgian or Victorian. A fire in the village in 1912 distroyed almost all the thatched cottages which stood on its main road, and there is only one thatched building left nowadays, known as “Bothy” and said to be 300 years old, and stands on the village green near the war memorial (photo 1) Further along stands the headquarters of the Sea Scout Troop, which is the furthest troop from the sea, still going strong after being founded in 1957. The river Stour provided water power for many small mills in this area, but all gone now, the homes converted into small houses. Just outside the village, stands the beautiful and historic Ettington Park, now a grand five star hotel, well worth visiting when you are in the area. ( reviewed for you by ourselves, one of our favourite hotels ) search for ETTINGTON PARK ) on Euan’s guide. We arrived at NEWBOLD on Stour as heading towards Stratford apon Avon at the village green (photo 1) pulling in before the war memorial and the thatched hut of the “Bothy”. It is a pleasant enough green, surrounded by more modern day houses (photo 2) and there are places you can quickly park up opposite the village bowls club (photo 3) which you approach by the path alongside the hall (photo 4) and the grounds are well maintained and offer a pleasant couple of hours challenge on the bowls green (photo 5) a game we have enjoyed for many years. A few yards beyond the village Green you will find the large car park for the nice little 16th century White Hart pub (photo 6) which is a popular pub to stop at as you pass through (photo 7). It is very small, but cosy (photo 8) with a bar that caters quite well for its many visitors, with open fire places during the cold months (photo 9) Flag stone flooring and furniture that adds atmosphere (photo 10) and a small restaurant (photo 11). A little hall leads to the toilets (photo 12) which does not have a disabled toilet, just ladies and gents (photo 13) and these are small basic toilets, with NO grab rails or pull cords (photo 14). We were made to feel welcomed however, and enjoyed our little drink, before heading away towards ETTINGTON PARK. Search on Euans guide (See our reviews)
