Very narrow spaces and inaccessible machines

This multi-storey car park is just a short walk from Stratford International Railway Station and Westfield Stratford City. According to the website, there are a total of 850 parking spaces in the car park. I saw at least 30 accessible parking spaces on the lowest levels of the car park and there was also a bank of EV charging bays on the bottom level of the car park. The charging bays on the ground floor are operated by Osprey. The bays were quite narrow, most of the vehicles that were parked there were either right on the lines or slightly over. The charging machines were at the top of the bay, but they didn’t seem very accessible, especially for someone in a wheelchair or with a mobility aid. According to information online, you get to park in this car park for free for the first 90 minutes if you are charging your vehicle, after that, you pay the usual parking fees.

The pedestrian entrance to the car park is step-free and has two sets of doors leading into the bottom floor of the car park. There are also two lifts that travel to the other floors. The EV charging bays operated by Osprey are located on the bottom floor of the car park, on the same level as the pedestrian entrance. The bays were very narrow and were busy when I visited. There were no options to park in a bay that had empty bays on either side. If you required additional space on either side of your vehicle, then you would need to park across two bays. If all the bays were full, I think it would be an incredibly tight squeeze for someone to walk between two vehicles to reach the charging machine, let alone walk with a mobility aid. The charging machines themselves were located at the top of each bay, against the wall of the car park. They were placed on a raised concrete platform which had a bollard on each corner. This made it impossible for me to get up close to the machine in my wheelchair. The screen and contactless point were quite high up on the machine too. I would have struggled to reach them even if the machine was flat on the floor, but there was no way I could reach them from my wheelchair. There were two charging cables to choose from at each machine and these were quite heavy. These cables were docked into the machine at the same height as the screen so it was also impossible for me to reach them from my wheelchair. If you are a wheelchair user or use another mobility aid, it will be incredibly difficult to interact with the machines here. If you benefit from any additional space around your parked vehicle, these bays are not suitable either.

This car park had lots of spaces across multiple floors with accessible parking spaces and EV spaces on the bottom level. Stratford International Railway Station is just 200 metres down the road from the car park. From here, you can get Southeastern trains. 300 metres away is Stratford City Bus Station where there are a large number of London Buses as well as National Express and FlixBus coaches to Stansted Airport. 500 metres away is Stratford Railway Station which has a large number of services available including the Central Line, DLR, Elizabeth Line, Jubilee Line, Mildmay Line, and Greater Anglia services.
