Parc Hotel Gritti, Bardolino, Lake Garda

Bardolino was recommended to me as a place which would allow me to move comfortably around without having large cobblestoned streets. Parc Hotel Gritti is used by Jet2 - who we booked with - and the entrance - although it looks inaccessible - has a pathway round the edge of the property for wheelchairs to use. It is clearly signposted - if a little bumpy at parts due to tree roots. This pathway leads straight to reception where there are wide doors for entrance and access to lifts at either edge of the building There is access all around the building - little pathways leading across the main square which is otherwise stepped. Graduated walkways to a little coffee machine where you could start your day post breakfast. The restaurants are all level and very welcoming. The staff are great. Nothing is too much effort. We wanted to go to nearby shops one day and they booked us a taxi which would take my scooter, and organised the return journey similarly. I was using my mobility scooter and my husband uses a stick. The hotel was just around a ten minute walk/scoot from the town - a very pleasant journey which took us along the edge of Lake Garda - a walkway which was level and broad enough for other visitors. There were market stalls along the edge with arts and crafts and on a Saturday a larger more traditional European market. The town itself was beautiful. Very level and extremely accessible. From Bardolino there are ferries running all around the lake, We used the public ferry which has ramps available at each port and there is even a lift to allow you to get upstairs and out to sit in the fresh air right on the Lake - this was what was really wanting to do. There was no cost for me to use the ferry and my husband was given a reduced rate. We only realised how good Bardolino was when we arrived at the ferry port we chose. It was really bumpy - very uncomfortable riding and, if I had been using my manual wheelchair, very taxing, As it was my wheels got stuck a couple of times so we didn't go far into the village but stopped at a gelato store - the best ice cream ever!! I have put on a separate review on Verona Airport assistance on our return - an absolutely awful experience but this hotel - and the destination - was just perfect.
