Overview

This was the hotel found for us by the staff at our first (completely inappropriate) hotel, the Court House Hotel. It was very easy to find, being just off the ring road, and close to the main train station. Being just outside the old town, it is a new building that is fully accessible, and has free onsite parking directly outside the door. The reception is accessible step-free. Lots of chairs to sit in while waiting. Lifts to all floors which were big enough for my mobility scooter. Our room was not large, but there was plenty of space for my mobility scooter, wheelchair and our luggage. The double bed was two singles joined together - very, very comfortable. Nice, varied breakfast with hot and cold items. There was an in-house restaurant, with very standard fare. We did not eat there as there were so many good restaurants nearby. The hotel is only a short distance by mobility scooter to the Old Town with the Oude Gracht, Vredenburg Place (markets on Friday and Saturday) and a multitude of very good restaurants. Ask at reception for the short cut through a foot tunnel. Utrecht is a really lovely city - even in the continual drizzle that met our visit. The roads and footpaths are mostly flat enough for a comfortable ride on wheelchair or mobility scooter. Few cars around, but millions of bicycles everywhere. May cause problems for blind visitors, as you cannot hear them coming.

Transport & Parking

Hotel is very easy to find, just off the ring road - head in direction of the train station. Plenty of open air parking right by the front door, including dedicated disabled parks. Apart from needing a confirmed parking space with extra space on passenger side, we had no specific requests. But while we were there, a Swiss party with disabled guests arrived, who needed much more space to park and unload etc. They had called in advance, and the hotel was very happy to accommodate them. We know this, because the staff let us know, so that we would not park in the space allocated to them.

Access

Step-free access to the hotel, with lifts to all floors. The lift was large enough for us and my mobility scooter - but may be cramped for larger scooters, or other large equipment.

Toilets

I did not use a public accessible toilet in the hotel, but am sure there would be one, as the hotel is used a lot for business conferences. The bathroom was small, but I was able to move around and use everything from my wheelchair. The toilet had a grab rail on the left, and in front. Seat in the shower and again a grab rail on the left. Complimentary soaps, shampoo etc. All well maintained and clean.

Staff

The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. They told us about the shortcut through to the Old Town and gave us maps of Utrecht to use.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This hotel was a godsend - after our experience with our first hotel in Utrecht. It is not flash - really for business men and conference people - but ideal for our purposes. I have to remember that I am now disabled and can no longer choose character filled old hotels in the centre of centuries old towns. New hotels may be characterless, but they are safe, comfortable and above all accessible. If you are going to Utrecht, I would highly recommend this hotel.
