Overview

A family run soap factory opened in 1891 and which offers free guided tours Mondays to Fridays at 12pm noon. The factory is small and accessible by 2 steps, see photo. There is also a gift shop.

Transport & Parking

Corfu Town is a short 5 – 10 minutes’ drive by taxi from Corfu Airport. There are buses that serve the town centre and taxis are plentiful and quite reasonably priced. Plenty of local buses stop close by. I took a taxi from my hotel.

Access

The soap factory is very small, a single room at the back of the shop. From the street the entrance there are a couple of steps into the factory. The first room is a shop and there is a place to sit while you wait for the tour to start. Then there are 2 steps, see picture, into the factory itself. Although the corridor is quite narrow, there was a manual wheelchair user in the group, whose wheelchair was able to go into the factory. There were seats put out for people who required them so I could sit while I watched the demonstration, which was in English. The tour lasted about 30 - 40 minutes and afterwards there was the opportunity to buy their soap in the gift shop.

Staff

Staff were very welcoming. When I arrived I was invited to sit down until the tour started. The staff noticed that a bit of the factory floor was wet so they cleaned it and put down cardboard to ensure that the group would not slip. When inside the factory the staff asked who wanted a chair to sit during the demonstration. The entire tour was conducted at the same location and a comprehensive description of the soap making process was provided and the group's questions were answered. The staff involved the older children in the group to assist with the preparation of the soap.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The soap factory visit was fascinating and charming. There was just a small group of people who turned up for it. The tour is free and well worth doing. The soaps are reasonably priced and would make nice gifts. Highly recommend.
