I am a disabled person and a carer or friend of a disabled person and a general supporter of disabled access. I have experience of challenges around: a hidden impairment, accessing toilets, dexterity or coordination and moving around.
Overall Rating
Excellent
2 sets of automatic, double doors which lead into the heart of the centre. More than ample space to manoeuvre absolutely any kind of mobility aid and a very large number of disabled parking bays.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
There are 2 sets of automatic double doors and a rotating door upon entering the building. Just inside the doors is a large space that houses a café with seating, the reception area with a shop, tables and chairs for general use and access to all facilities within the centre. There are lifts that lead to the upper floors located a short distance from the entrance along with a large staircase.

There is a very large, dedicated carpark for Pentre Awel with more than ample disabled parking bays. There are also numerous EV disabled parking bays available, along with a large amount of general parking spaces, motorbike parking and push-bike racks. Just outside there are drop-off points for both disabled and non-disabled users and bus stops for local public services.

Accessible Toilets

There are disabled bathrooms located around the building for each different section of the place. There is a disabled toilet just outside the gym along with another located just next to the changing rooms around the corner. Both toilets are large enough for a wheelchair or small powerchair to use with ease, they are simple to lock and red-emergency cords hang to the floor without hindrance. Inside the changing rooms is a disabled shower with grab rails and shower seat attached to the wall. There are benches and private changing cubicles that also have seating located within the changing rooms.

Staff
Excellent
Staff at Pentre Awel are friendly and knowledgeable, they treat you with courtesy and are more than happy to assist with any queries you have. After speaking to a gym staff member, I feel completely comfortable gaining access to the gym in my wheelchair. The gym itself has a barrier entrance, however this is more than wide enough for my chair to go through with ease and navigating the place is very easy with the equipment having lots of space to manoeuvre around.
