Overview

Picnic Park Deli is a friendly, independent, outdoor café within the beautiful setting of Lower Gardens, the public park next to the seafront. It only has outside seating and is mostly set free. It serves brunch, a selection of grilled cheese sandwiches (highly recommend), ice cream, hot and cold drinks including cocktails. Please note opening times are 10am to 5pm daily but is weather dependent.

Transport & Parking

The café is located on the edge of the gardens close to Westoverton Road and The Pavilion Theatre. There are several buses that stop close by. However, if you are using buses please check google street view as Bournemouth is very hilly. The gardens are on a noticeable slope, see photos. If you want the flattest route, I would suggest coming from Westoverton Road as there is a short and not too steep slope down to the café.

Access

The café is self service. The kiosk has 2 counters. The lower counter has a glass case with a display of ice creams. The higher counter is at standing height and is where you order your food. Most of the café has free standing table and chairs, which occupy both sides of the path. There is also an area with a raised platform with a step or two to an area with traditional picnic tables. A lovely touch is their Social station with hand sanitiser, magazines, colouring pencils and paper, games and information board, see photo.

Toilets

There are no toilets at the café. There is an accessible toilet near the pier, which has a radar key, which is a 3 -5 minute walk. There maybe ones closer but I didn't notice them.

Staff

The staff were very welcoming, friendly and cheerful. When my food and drink were ready they brought it to me.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The café has a small but very nice selection of food. I had a Proud Mary grilled sandwich with brie, avocado, sun-dried tomatoes and tomato chutney, it was utterly delicious. This is the perfect alfresco dining spot, lovely food, warm welcoming atmosphere, great holiday vibe. I noticed on their website that they hold occasional events, such as live music, so check their website if you're interested in that. Definitely worth visiting. Highly recommend.
