    About

With an enviable setting in the ancient precinct of Melrose Abbey, Priorwood Garden has three distinct areas. The first area is Scotland’s only garden that used to be dedicated to dried flowers. Most of the flowers and herbs were grown for this purpose but they also provide an impressive display in their own right, especially in summer when the herbaceous borders are at their vibrant and colourful best. With wonderfully framed views across to the abbey, the orchard cultivates many historical apple varieties, as well as plums, pears, damsons and greengages. Finally, the shady woodland area brings a touch of untamed wildness to the garden. All the information for this venue has been submitted by visitors in the form of reviews. Attractive garden but deep gravel makes accessibility difficult.

This free National Trust garden and orchard is in the middle of Melrose. There are many old varieties of apple trees along with a mulberry tree and other fruit trees.

    The secret apple orchard

Priorwood Garden is one of the secrets of Melrose. Tucked behind a large stone wall and visible only through the arched doorway you're left wondering what lies inside. Not, perhaps, the greatest mobility access, for me as a wheelchair user, but that is due to change with some carefully curated upgrades to surfaces and the building. A great spot if you're more mobile and particularly if you are looking for some peace and quite against a backdrop of buzzing bees, blossom, and blooms.
