The main car park for Sheffield Railway station is run by Q-Park and feels quite secure. It has a height restriction of 2.10m and there are gated shutters at the entrance which open as you approach. It’s open to use 24/7 and is a paid car park. The car park says it has a total of 678 parking spaces, including 11 accessible parking bays and 8 electric charging stations. Most, if not all, of the accessible parking bays seemed to be on the bottom floor of the car park along with the motorcycle parking and EV charging bays. As you approach the car park from the station, the walkway and pavement are mostly covered. A zebra crossing goes from the covered pavement to the pedestrian entrance. The entrance has automatic sliding doors into a foyer area. This area has some payment machines, two lifts and a security desk and office. Through this foyer is where you find the accessible parking bays and EV charging stations. The EV charging bays were empty and seemed well-spaced, although I felt that the placement of the charging point, where you would attach the cable, could be tricky to navigate and use for some people. The car park felt secure and well laid out. You can pay for the parking with a card via the machines by the main entrance, or you can pay from your phone using PayByPhone or RingGo.

The walk from the train station to the car park has station infrastructure or glass canopies providing cover for most of the distance between the two. A zebra crossing provides access across the road to the pedestrian entrance which has automatic sliding doors. Inside this entrance is a foyer with payment machines, two lifts and a security desk and office. The lifts travelled to the other floors of this multi-storey car park. The foyer area has tiled flooring which was very smooth, there were some mats placed by the sliding doors to try and limit the amount of water that could be tracked onto the tiles in bad weather. The parking machine screens were quite high up and none of the machines seemed to have a lowered option. The option to pay via your phone is helpful in this situation but I didn’t see any signage highlighting this on the machines. If someone was struggling to use the machines, I think a notice highlighting the online payment options could be beneficial. The EV charging stations were operated by a company called blink. Each space had a station with a charging point for your own cable to go in. Above it was a small screen where you may be able to tap a card for payment. On the walls were some instructions on how to start and stop charging. There were bollards placed directly in front of the charging points which were central to the parking bays. Given how heavy the cables can be, it could be very difficult to reach the attachment point for the cable especially given the bollards placement. The spaces seemed well-spaced out but there weren’t any cars using them when I was there so it was hard to assess just how much space there might be around a car, especially if it was busy.

This car park is very close to the train station where you can get services operated by East Midlands Railway, CrossCountry, TransPennine Express and Northern Trains. These provide services to locations such as London St Pancras, Norwich, Liverpool Lime Street, Edinburgh Waverley, York, Newcastle, Plymouth, Reading, Cleethorpes, Manchester Piccadilly, Leeds, Nottingham, Scarborough, Lincoln, Huddersfield, Doncaster and other stations along the way. There is also a taxi rank based just outside the station. Connected to the train station is a tram stop where you can access the SuperTram services. From the Sheffield Station tram stop, you can access the Blue and Purple lines. The Blue line travels from Halfway to Malin Bridge. The Purple line travels from Herdings Park to Cathedral. In order to connect to the Yellow and Black lines you would need to travel one stop into the city centre where you would be able to access all four services via the Fitzalan Square tram stop. 450 metres from the car park is Sheffield Interchange, where there are a large number of bus and coach services available. There is a covered walkway once you cross the road outside the station which ends at a zebra crossing that leads to the main building at the bus station. The National Express and FlixBus coach services that are available from here are available from stands E1 - E4 but there are no facilities to print or buy coach tickets at the station. This must be done in advance of your arrival. There are also a large number of local Sheffield bus routes that stop here. The bus routes available are: 2, 7, 8, 9a, 18, 29, 41, 43, 44, 50, 50a, 50b, 53, 56, 57, 65, 73, 80a, 86, 95, 95a, 120, 135, 208, 216, 218, 252, 256, 257, 258, 271, 272, X3, X5, X7, X17, X54, X71 and X74.

There was a security desk in the main foyer but I didn’t see any staff inside the car park on the times I was there.
