Rannoch Moor

This is a very scenic trip, following the A82 across wild moor land with mountain backdrops, glens and river courses. (Photo MAP). LUSS to RANNOCH Moor It has an area of some 50 square miles (130 km) of boggy moorland, now designated a site of special scientific interest and of special conservation. It holds the Glencoe national scenic route which includes Ben Nevis in the area. Noted for its wildlife. It’s Peat areas give builders many difficulties, and known for the marvellous work that the railway engineeers completed when they had to float the railway line on a mattress of tree roots, brushwood, and thousand of tons of earth needed to keep the tracks on course. The highest station in the UK, at 1339 feet, and one of the most remote, is that of Corrour. Used by walkers who enjoy being left to wander this vast wilderness, as the nearest road is 10 miles away. This route can be very bleak on those wet miserable days, but still holds enough interest to allow you to wish you had picked a better day.
