Overview

This museum is in a beautiful location on Scarborough South Bay. There is a large, round lift right in the centre of the building which would accommodate both wheelchairs and most mobility scooters and accesses the first and second floors of the museum. There are wide and level walkways throughout and up to the museum with plenty of parking up valley road.

Transport & Parking

The best way to access the museum is by car as the station is about 20 mins walk which will be uphill on the way back. Valley road that runs under valley bridge is the best place to park as it is a long road with free parking for disable badge holders within about 25 metres. There is then a wide and level path up to the museum.

Access

There are signs up to the museum and it stands in a prominent location with an easily distinguishable arch=architecture. Both floors of the museum can be accessed by a central large lift. The walkways throughout the museum are sufficient width for wheelchair users and most mobility scooters. There are audio options throughout.

Toilets

The loo is easily accessible to the right as you enter the building. The toilet is large and there is plenty of space for equipment and carer. There are grab rails and pull cord for emergencies. The loo was very clean.

Staff

I was greeted straight away on entering the museum and I asked about disable facilities. He explained the museum was well catered for and there were audio option on the displays if required. He explained that they had had mobility scooters in the fantastic lift. There was another member of staff covering the museum answering questions and was also very smiley and friendly.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Although the museum is small it is interesting and has some well considered displays about the geology of the local area. N]Right next to the museum is a lovely cafe on a slight incline band access to the beach so this would be great as part of a day out in Scarborough.
