    About

Royal Exhcange Theatre's vision is to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence for theatre in the UK and a vibrant cultural centre for Manchester and the region. Each year we showcase an ambitious programme inspired by the world's greatest stories: stories that have the power to change the way we see the world. To us, that means taking artistic risks, working as part of exciting partnerships, seeking out bold collaborations and championing new talent. Of course, great-storytelling shouldn't be confined to the stage. Whether we're training a new generation of theatre-makers, creating adventurous new work with over 60s, working with local communities or being inspired by the work of new writers, we're committed to creating more and more opportunities for those who want to get involved. Housed in one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, you only need to step inside to begin a journey into the world of the Royal Exchange Theatre. Come on in! We want to share it with you.

My favourite place to both visit and work

Royal exchange theatre is not only an accessible place to visit but it is an accessible place to volunteer/work. They have a visual guide which you can access on there website so as an autistic you know what to expect before you arrive. I recommend watching a relaxed performance if you are autistic as they give you a booklet to read through before so you know what to expect during the play (there are spoilers in the booklet but as an autistic it doesn’t bother me and I prefer to know what to expect) I also decided to do some volunteering at royal exchange theatre during covid. I did most of it on zoom but was worried about doing it in person as they were strict with masks even though I lip read due to being hard of hearing but I let all the other workers know about my worries and every single person bought themselves a lip reading Friendly mask for me. It brought a tear to my eye. I felt very welcome at the Royal exchange theatre with all my disabilities

    Great theatre

Excellent access to this wonderful old building and great theatre in the round. Theatre staff are helpful and welcoming, the facilities are good and there are concessionary ticket prices for wheelchair users, who get a good 'seat' next to their companions. The Round Resteraunt in the same venue is welcoming and provides a good menu; ideal for pre theatre dinner.
