Overview
We didn't use the main hall where I understand access is better but The Maplin Suite which is a shame as it has stairs down to it which means we actually came in via the fire doors to avoid them. The toilets are still then up the short flight of stairs but the helpful staff put up a temporary ramp. Manageable with a power chair but very daunting for a manual chair especially if you are self mobilising.
Transport & Parking
We came by car and there was plenty of parking. Its literally right next to Southend Airport so I should imagine it is well served by buses and I know there is a train service.
Access
Access was as stated down a steep ramp or through the fire doors. This would be challenging for a manual chair. There were large tables with chairs round in The Maplin Suite and it made it very hard to get around. The stage area also had steps up to it.
Toilets
There were mainstream toilets in The Maplin Suite but the disabled one was up a steep temporary ramp in the reception area. There was very little room in there as as well as storing a wheelchair they also had a large table blocking transfer access. There was no red cord at all so I hope you can yell loudly.
Staff
The staff were quick to get the ramp out for toilet access but it does mean you have to plan ahead and let people know in plenty of time.
