    About

Scampston Walled Garden is a contemporary garden nestled in the grounds of the Regency-style stately home. The Walled Garden is a striking example of naturalistic perennial planting, and has gained repute as a plantsman's paradise. For those who prefer more traditional gardens, there are also the Hall gardens and 'Capability' Brown parkland to explore. Both the Walled Garden & Parkland are open to visitors from Easter though to October each year. The Hall is open for guided tours from the end of May until the end of July. With decadent regency interiors and an impressive collection of art and antiques, the Hall tours are both lively and informative. A Garden Cafe serves delicious light lunches and home-made cream teas. The small plant nursery specialises in the unusual plants you'll find in the gardens. There is also an excellent shop selling good quality gifts.

Great garden, great physical accessibility and well informed staff.

That garden is stunning and fully physically accessible sort from the steep mound which has steps only for those with strong legs and plenty of puff. The surfaces vary but all cope well with wheels. There is a standard accessible toilet, I didn’t try and turn my power chair around, just drove in and reversed out. There is an all terrain scooter to borrow if you want to explore the wider estate or you feel less confident with your legs or wheelchair going around the wider estate. The staff at the kiosk offered very good accessibility information to help you decide where you go. The cafe is spacious, it does have gentle background music but if you want to avoid this there is seating outside. There is ramped access to the main house although you won’t be able to access beyond the ground floor. The only other step is onto the bridges across the water but there are alternative routes to each side. There are lots of seats and benches in the main garden. There are some, but fewer in the wider estate. There are also five dedicated blue badge parking spaces on a secure surface right by the entrance. These are clearly signposted from the driveway. There is a separate charity that offers training and social experiences for adults with learning disabilities. The cafe and plant sales support this charity. I cannot comment on access for those with sensory disabilities or neurodivergence.
