Overview
Sockport city centre's first wheelchair accessible bookshop, I believe! Chill atmosphere, good displays and selections, friendly staff. Was drawn in by the pride display and ramp, been several times. Entrance is a single door, wide enough for most wheelchairs (mine's wider than average and I have no trouble), with short ramp approx 1:6 ratio. Door is glass, I've only been in summer so far when the door has been left open so I can't comment on the weight. Level throughout with low-profile carpet. Shelves and displays well-spaced; some books shelved high up or floor level so some people will need help accessing them. Lighting soft but bright enough to read by, carpet is solid colour as far as I can tell. Acoustics good (no echoing etc), although I've not been when it's busy. I have not seen a large-print section. I do not think there is an induction loop. Only met one member of staff so far, vary friendly and helpful, tells me the owners are very keen that the shop be accessible. Lots of carparks nearby andI'm pretty sure you can park quite close with a blue badge, convenient for city center bus routes. Convenient for the Stockport bus exchange, if you don't mind a bit of a hill!
