    Sheffield Botanical Gardens

    About

Sheffield Botanical Gardens are located one and a half miles to the south-west of Sheffield city centre and cover 19 acres [7.7 hectares] on a sloping site. The Gardens are registered by English Heritage as a Grade II site of special historic interest. Winding paths connect over 18 different garden areas based on geographical or botanical themes. 1984 saw the creation of the Friends of the Botanical Gardens Sheffield and in 1996 the Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust was established as a registered charity to raise funds for the restoration and ongoing maintenance of the gardens and its historic buildings. Since then the Trust has raised over £7 million for the gardens. Sheffield Botanical Gardens has over 18 different areas of planting and listed buildings for you to explore. Highlights of the site include the Grade II* listed range of glass Pavilions, the imposing gatehouse entrance, a rare Bear Pit, the modest South Lodge (all three Grade II listed), a Victorian Curator’s House (now a café) and a fossil stump (which is around 310 million years old). Relax in the shade of our beautiful trees and sniff out our scented plants in winter. There is always something to enjoy. There is also the Dorothy Fox Education Centre on site which contains bookable classroom space and hosts the Garden's Education Programme courses and workshops.
