Overview

The Aquarium is located in the busy seaside town of Skegness. The Aquarium Charges £7 for a person who is disabled and an additional £7 for a Carer. The aquarium is small and friendly. I observed a lady using a small mobility scooter during my visit. Parts of the Aquarium have a narrow walkway that at busy times would make it difficult to manoeuvre a wheelchair or mobility scooter through. The lighting is quite low and the gentleman who accompanied me struggled to read some of the signs due to this the staff that were located throughout were more than happy to assist by reading out the information. It has not got it's own parking.

Transport & Parking

We caught the bus which was overcrowded due to it being peak season and there was no room for a wheelchair and all the disabled seats were already occupied. The bus stop is five minutes walk (approximately) from the aquarium. There is a public car park behind the Aquarium approximately 2 minutes walk. The Aquarium is also located 20 minute walk from the train station you can also catch a bus from outside the train station that drops you a 5 minute walk from the Aquarium .

Access

3.5

There is a large slope at the front of the aquarium for wheelchair access. The entrance door is wide allowing for easy access however it is quite tight by the payment counter. Halfway round seats can be found giving a place to rest. Some of the signs are quite high up and due to the dim lighting they were not all easy to read. The staff were on hand to help read these signs. The aquarium has a lift up to the café although you would struggle to get a mobility scooter in it.

Toilets

There is an accessible toilet. however if you were on a mobility scooter you may struggle to manoeuvre in it , but a manual wheelchair user should have no difficulty.

Staff

4.5

The staff were friendly and helpful.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I would recommend that you remember your documentation on your disability as this is required in order to attain the discounted adult/ carer rate. This venue is lovely, but if using a mobility scooter or large wheelchair it is more accessible at quieter periods throughout the year.
