Venue Description

The South Tynedale Railway is England's highest narrow gauge railway winding northwards from its home at Alston in Cumbria for 3½ miles into Northumberland and the current terminus at Lintley Halt, following the route of the former Alston to Haltwhistle branch line which officially closed on 1st May 1976.

Accessibility

The railway station at Alston is fully wheelchair accessible and includes a disabled toilet at street level. The ticket office / gift shop has a permanent ramp allowing access for wheelchairs and the cafe / tea room has a removable ramp that can be fitted when needed - please ask a member of staff for assistance. We try to run an accessible coach on all of our services which includes a ramp and space for two wheelchairs. We recommend that people call in advance to check that the coach is running and that it hasn't been withdrawn at short notice due to mechanical problems.

Toilets

A disabled toilet is provided at the railway station with access from the street rather than the platform. If there are any issues with the toilet then please contact a member of staff.
