I am a disabled person. I have experience of challenges around: accessing toilets and moving around.

I use or have experience of: disabled toilet, wheelchair

Myself, wearing a pink and navy blue rugby style top and green cargo trousers sat in my wheelchair in the foyer of St. Martins Theatre in front of the sign depicting the number of the performance. To the left of me, as you look at the image, is the roll out, portable ramp used by the staff members to assist wheelchair users to gain access to the building and then up into the auditorium. The outside of St. Martins Theatre in London's West End. The entrance has a small number of steps which the staff assist with by way of a portable ramp.

The Mousetrap, the longest running play in the World! This London West End production is performed in the St. Martins Theatre. The theatre is an old west end theatre and as such was never designed or built with accessibility in mind. However, for myself as a manual wheelchair user, I managed to enjoy this experience. The building does have a number of steps in from the pavement and further steps inside in order to get to the Dress Circle seats/spaces allocated as accessible. The two wonderful members of the theatre staff were more than happy to get out their portable ramp and push me up this ramp before the performance, during the interval and at the end of the performance. I then transferred into a theatre seat to watch the performance, however they are able to remove one or more seats to accommodate an individual who prefers or needs to stay in their own chair. There is a 'small' accessible toilet with a step free, street level entrance. the staff were more than happy to bring my wheelchair back to me at the interval and using the ramp get me out to street level to use the facilities and then assist me in returning to my seat for the second half. Yes, it's not perfect due to being such an old building but the staff go out of their way to overcome as much of the obstacles as possible.

    Parking & Transport

I travelled to this place by bus

This Theatre is in central West End London, therefore, public transport or London Black Cab are probably the best / only options for travel to and from the venue.

The accessible toilet at this theatre is small but has grab rails and was very clean.
