Excellent
The museum combines a worthwhile collection of art with displays on the history of the city and temporary exhibitions. The sections on Alkmaar's golden age and on the siege of the city in 1573 are particularly interesting.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
Access is via a long, shallow ramp along one side of the square in which the museum is located. The entrance doors are wide and automatic, as are the doors between the galleries. There is a lift to all levels. Circulating spaces in the foyer, cafe and galleries are very good.
Parking & Transport
0Can't comment on the parking. The museum is approximately 12 minutes wheel from the train station.
Accessible Toilets
Excellent
The accessible loo is on the ground floor. The door is wide and although the loo is relatively small there would be room for side transfer provided you moved the Hi-Tech litter bin. The toilet has grab rails, the loo paper dispenser is within reach and there's an approachable washbasin. The alarm cord is of the excellent Dutch type - it goes most of the way round the room at skirting board level.

Excellent
Friendly, helpful and English speaking. We especially liked the art gallery attendant who told us "All of England is beautiful apart from Ipswich. Clearly not a Tractor Boy.
Additional Information
Don't miss the art - paintings of the local Bergen School from the early 20th century. Their work deserves to be better known outside the Netherlands.
